First Front Door: Helping First-Time Homebuyers Open the Door to Homeownership
Buying your first home is an exciting milestone, but it can also feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to saving for a down payment and closing costs. At White Rose Credit Union, we believe homeownership should be more attainable, and that’s why we’re proud to participate in the First Front Door (FFD) first-time homebuyer grant program.
What Is the First Front Door Program?
First Front Door (FFD) is a grant program offered through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh and participating financial institutions like White Rose Credit Union. The program is designed to help qualified first-time homebuyers by providing funds that can be used toward down payment and closing cost assistance.
Unlike a loan, FFD funds do not need to be repaid, as long as program requirements are met.
When Can You Apply?
First Front Door funding opens May 19, 2026
Funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so it’s important to prepare early and work with a mortgage lender ahead of the opening date.
Who Is Considered a First-Time Homebuyer?
You may qualify as a first-time homebuyer if you have not owned a primary residence in the past three years. This can also apply to joint purchases, as long as at least one applicant meets that requirement.
First Front Door Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for a First Front Door grant, applicants must meet specific guidelines, including:
- Borrower contribution:
You must contribute $1,500 of your own funds, which can qualify you for a grant of up to $15,000 to use toward down payment and closing costs. - First-time homebuyer requirement:
At least one applicant must meet the definition of a first-time homebuyer. - Income limits:
Household income must be at or below 80% of the area median income at the time of registration. - Homeownership counseling:
Applicants must complete a minimum of four hours of homeownership counseling, including education on predatory lending, prior to purchasing the home. - Occupancy requirement:
The home must be used as your primary residence, and applicants should intend to live in the home for at least five years.
If the home is sold before five years, a portion of the grant may need to be repaid.
