Adopt A Family

2020

Even during a pandemic, the employees of White Rose Credit Union came together to support the YWCA’s Adopt-a-Family program in 2020. These gifts will provide a family in need with a special Christmas.


2019

During the holiday season, the staff at White Rose Credit Union participated in the YWCA of York’s Adopt a Family Program for a special family in need. Employees purchased gifts and wish list items for a single mother and her family of three children. Because of this program, another family was able to experience a truly magical Christmas.

Lanes For Lives

2020

A team from White Rose Credit Union recently participated in the American Red Cross Lanes for

Lives event at Suburban Bowlerama this past month. The event brings businesses together to bowl and raises funds for some of the Red Cross’s lifesaving programs.

A month full of generous donations, candy and pretzel sales, and dedication allowed us to donate $1,316.11 towards the fundraising event. With some help from a few children from the York County Youth Development Center, White Rose Credit Union even took home the Spirit Award for being the loudest and proudest team at the event!

Sound the Alarm Program

Central York Communities that Care

  • Central York Middle School Yearbooks – covered purchases for students that could not afford a yearbook
  • Negative Lunch Accounts – Recently donated money to cover the negative balances of students that qualified for reduced and free lunches. This allows for students to purchase extra items and food with their traditional lunches.
  • Panther Pantry Prizes – donated totes and tumblers as incentives for CYSD staff members to contribute towards the Panther Pantry district-wide food pantry.

High School Branch

We are proud to have a branch right in the heart of the Central York School District! Located in the Panther Perk student-run cafe at Central York High School, our Central York Branch allows us to offer our services to the staff and students of CYSD. This branch is open to students and staff only, during the school year.

Panther Pantry

We were excited to support the Panther Pantry as the recipient of one of our in-branch drives and charitable causes. The Panther Pantry is a district-wide food pantry that serves the needs of students and families in the Central York School District.

Mad City Money

A team of White Rose Credit Union staff members participates in Mad City Money at Crispus Attucks.

In addition to featuring Crispus Attucks as one of our monthly Jeans for a Reason charities, we also hosted a financial education workshop for students called Mad City Money. Our staff members worked with students to help them create real-life scenarios based on a budget to demonstrate how money works in the real world.

This small gesture serves as a thank you not only from White Rose Credit Union, but the community we live in, to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff working on the frontlines fighting COVID19.

November

In November of 2020, White Rose Credit Union donated several iPads and a Lenovo Tablet to the Northeast Neighborhood Association. The tablets will be utilized for children that use NENA’s resource center, Chrystal’s Place.

 

August

White Rose Credit Union, with the help of members and staff, was able to donate over 300 school supplies to the Northeast Neighborhood Association in August. They were also the recipient of the credit union’s monthly Jeans for a Reason fundraiser.

White Rose is always proud to Support the Northeast Neighborhood Association. Throughout the year we have held several in-branch drives supporting their cause. Our backpack drive, in which we collect school supplies for the students served by the organization, is during the month of July.  Our peanut butter and jelly drive, typically held in May, supplies the children served by NENA with jars to last throughout the summer months. In addition to being a part of our in-branch drives, you will also see NENA as one of our Jeans For A Reason charities.

We were excited to help bring in the new year with some of York’s youngest members! WRCU helped sponsor the Children’s NYE countdown at Vonnie Grimes Gym in downtown York. Guests who stopped at the WRCU table were treated to a complimentary WRCU noisemaker, and parents got a chance at a Visa gift card.

Race Against Racism

In April 2020, White Rose Credit Union was proud to be the presenting sponsor of the YWCA’s Annual Race Against Racism. Although the year’s event went virtual due to COVID19, we were still happy to encourage participants online while supporting a great cause.

Numerous White Rose Credit Union employees participated in York City’s Real Men Read event. Males went into various classrooms in York City to read to students in an effort to promote educational excellence through positivity and community role models.

#ShowYourSelfieShopLocal

Shop Local, Local Selfie, Support Local Business, Win $100

In 2020, we kicked off our #ShowYourSelfieShopLocal Contest, encouraging residents in York and Adams Counties to support local businesses. We reached out to many small businesses to participate for free. Those who participated were listed on our website and social media as a spot that people could use for their selfies!

The random winner, chosen out of the selfie submissions walked away with a $100 Visa Gift Card, and helped boost some awareness for shopping local.

This event takes place in November and runs through Small Business Saturday into December.

Special Olympics

In addition to supporting the Special Olympics of York County Pennsylvania through our Jeans For A Reason campaign, we’ve also had the great opportunity to participate in the Polar Plunge. The Polar Plunge takes place in February when groups raise money and enter the Susquehanna River for the Special Olympics. The funding then goes to the programs and activities offered by the organization.

White Rose Credit Union was proud to sponsor an event at Old Republic Brewery for the Women’s Network of York. The funds raised at the event benefited their New Beginnings Scholarship.

WRCU Face Masks

In response to COVID and a higher demand for personal protective equipment, White Rose Credit Union ordered custom facemasks available for sale. The masks allow members to practice safety precautions while giving back to the community, as a portion of each sale will be directly donated to the York County Food Bank.

York County Food Bank

This past fall, White Rose Credit Union participated in a fundraising effort for the York County Food Bank. The three-week campaign included the collection of nonperishable food items from all of our branches, along with monetary donations from members and staff.

Members who donated at least $5 or more were entered into a drawing to win a Thanksgiving dinner for four valued at $100. In addition, WRCU pledged to match every donation up to $500.

Through the efforts of our dedicated membership and staff, White Rose Credit Union presented the York County Food Bank with a check for $1,034 and 139 pounds of food.

York County Youth Development Center

We recently held a clothing drive for the York County Youth Development Center. Throughout December, members and staff at all White Rose Credit Union branches collected hats, gloves, and socks for the children at the Youth Development Center.

The Center consists of a thirty-six (36) bed Community Residential Shelter that provides a safe and secure environment that enables residents to develop and strengthen their emotional, social intellectual, and life skills.  This provides the tools to build a foundation for future success.

On Thursday, December 19th our Senior Management sponsored a Christmas party for the center where they delivered the donations. The event included delicious food, gifts, games, and the opportunity to interact with the kids. As a result of the drive over 120 articles of clothing were donated.

Toiletry Drive

Our gracious members and staff came together to collect and donate toiletry items to support the YWCA. These items will help support the life-changing services that are currently offered to families in need throughout the community.


Walk A Mile

Operations Vice President, Bryan Smith, raised funds and had the WRCU team walk and support him in the Walk-A-Mile event.

Our team was happy to take part in the YWCA’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event in Downtown York. The event involves male participants walking in high heels to raise awareness and promotes the prevention of domestic and gender violence.


Y-Tri

United Way of York County

York Reads

235 books for the York Reads Initiative.

We were proud to help the United Way get books into the hands of young people all across the county. Having age-appropriate books at home helps students stay on track to reach proficiency goals in school. As a team, White Rose Credit Union donated 235 books.

VITA

Every year, some of our employees volunteer their time with VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance). VITA offers free tax assistance for low-income families and those in need. This program helps local families save money, and provides a great way for those with knowledge on income taxes to give back.

Our team donated over $700 to the Wounded Warriors Project in a recent holiday season as a gesture of thanks and a reminder to give back. Donations were made by White Rose Credit Union on each of our vendor’s behalf.

York City Police Department

Officer Trading Cards

Our credit union was proud to sponsor an officer trading card for YCPD. The cards allow officers to hand them out to kids and community members as a talking point and tool to bridge the gap between officers and the community.


St. Baldricks

We were so excited to support the York City Police Department in their participation in the St. Baldricks event. The event allowed officers to volunteer to have their heads shaved in an effort to raise money for childhood cancer research. This event was made possible through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
